THIS year's Christmas Eve Christingle service at Great Malvern Priory will be ticket only, because of its popularity.

Last year the services was so oversubscribed that this year, for health and safety reasons, the organisers have introduced ticketing for up to 690 people.

Rev Rod Corke said: "A Christingle candle symbolises Christ as the light of the world. We are delighted that so many families choose to come to the Christingle services just before they celebrate Christmas and will make them very welcome.

"But in view of the popularity of the Christmas Eve service, and the huge attendance at the service on Remembrance Sunday, we must keep an eye on numbers."

Volunteers are decorating over 1,000 Christingle presents comprising oranges with candles for the children and Christmas candles for the adults.

Free tickets for the service on Christmas Eve are available from the Priory shop, the parish office and the Tourist Information Centre.

The Christingle service on December 23 will not be ticketed and all are welcome.
