A REDDITCH group set up to combat the scourge of plastic waste has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Eco n Wise Redditch, which set its members an initial challenge of reducing the amount of plastic waste created in their own households, has been nominated for a Green Heart Hero award, in the category of 'inspirational community project'.
A delegation of founding members from Eco n Wise Redditch will be heading to Westminster Palace in London on March 11 to find out if the group has won.
The three Redditch women, Sharon Harvey, Rochelle Crawford, and Claire Davies, will be making a point of wearing second hand clothes to the event, showing that while the event itself may be prestigious, the environmental cost of new clothing simply isn’t worth it.
A spokesman from the group said that the cost a single cotton shirt takes as much water to produce as a person needs to drink over the course of two and half years.
