PREPARATIONS are under way for this year’s Pershore Carnival, which is set to bring some magic to the bank holiday with its theme of ‘fairytales.’

Every year the carnival committee has to raise enough money to stage this event.

Businessman Harry Christodoulou, of Newlands Fish Bar in Pershore, generously donated an Easter egg hamper and a fish supper and sold raffle tickets to his customers.

The raffle raised £300 and the draw was made on Good Friday.

Chairman, Colin Shepherd, said: “It is such a help when local businesses want to get involved and support our fundraising efforts so that we can put on a good show for the people of Pershore and our visitors. We are very grateful to Harry and his family for their support.”

Other members of the community have been getting involved with fund raising for the carnival, taking place on May 27.

Many people went down to King Georges Field on Sunday, April 14 for the annual duck race. The ducks were unfortunately not very cooperative but that only added to the entertainment.

Mr Shepherd said: “We rely on our fundraising efforts and donations to be able to make the carnival happen so I would like to thank everyone who came along.

“Despite the cold, everyone had a great time.”

The Carnival Royalty for 2019 were also crowned at the event by the Mayor Cllr Chris Parsons and his wife, Jan.

The Carnival King is Sam Mardle, aged 10 of Holy Redeemer School who was also King last year and the Carnival Queen is Bella Bromilow, 8, of Cherry Orchard First School, in Pershore.
