THIS is Lexie, a lovely two-year-old rough haired terrier who came into the care of RSPCA Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire Branch with her five underweight puppies.

The charity rehomed the pups once they were fit, healthy and a good weight but Lexie needs a quiet home with understanding owners, due to her past experience.

Geraldine Haynes, branch trustee, takes up the story: "Lexie was very scared and traumatised because she had never seen the outside world and her original owners had never socialised her in any way. Initially she would not come out of her kennel or allow anyone to touch her.

"Thanks to the patience, understanding and kindness she's received at our kennels, she now likes being stroked and will be picked up to go out into the play area, which she's enjoying.

"Lexie still has a long way to go, but we feel she would now make good progress if she was in a home environment. We are looking for a kind, understanding person or couple in a quiet home, who can give her the time and patience she truly deserves.

"Initially it would be best for someone to be able to visit her regularly, so that she can get to know you before going home.

"She is an absolutely lovely, wonderful girl, so sweet natured with not a bad bone in her body. Lexie is sadly like many dogs coming into our care, who take a long time to rehabilitate, because they have not had a good start in life.

"We all feel these poor dogs should be given every chance to have a loving home, no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is - they really do deserve it. This is what our work is all about."
