A SCHOOL in Bewdley has been nominated three times for this year’s Worcestershire Education Awards.

The Bewdley School is up for the Secondary School of the Year Award, one of 12 categories in the 2019 Worcestershire Education Awards, led by our sister paper the Worcester News in partnership with the University of Worcester.

Kate Royals, who nominated the Stourport Road school, said: “The Bewdley School has had such an amazing year as it enters a new era of academic and pastoral excellence.

"At the heart of the school are the students, who are polite, engaged and overwhelmingly happy. This is truly a caring school, and nothing comes before the wellbeing and achievement of the students.

"New uniform, a reinforced focused energy and new buildings have secured Bewdley as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking schools in Worcestershire, with a focus on progress rather than definitive academic targets.”

Another nomination from Catherine Louise read: “The Bewdley School has had a new lease of life over the past year, with the new headteacher working with his exceptional staff to make an established good school even better.

"The past 12 months have been monumental for The Bewdley School. It feels exciting, and the sense of improvement and drive to higher standards is shared across the entire school.”

Father-of-three Henry Price added: “Bewdley goes above and beyond to encourage their students to succeed.

"Bewdley has pushed their school identity and ethos to the next level, choosing to stay away from conventional pressures and focus on the success and ambition of their students.”

This is the third year for the Worcestershire Education Awards - a celebration of excellence in the education fields across the county.

Bewdley School headteacher Dave Hadley-Pryce said: “We are very fortunate in Bewdley to have a culturally active and supportive community and an exceptional staff who will go above and beyond to work with them.

"I am delighted and touched that our exceptional staff have been recognised in this way by our lovely school community.”

Those who make the finalists list will be invited to a black tie gala evening at the University of Worcester Arena on June 20.
