FOR the second month in a row, an animal sanctuary near Kidderminster has opened its doors to the public.

Goodheart Animal Sanctuary, in Milson, will now be welcoming visitors on the first Saturday of every month - up until September - to give people the opportunity to learn more about the animals in its care and explore the grounds.

The sanctuary's newest resident, Dougall the lamb, will be centre of attention at the next 'Come and See Us' event, taking place on June 1 from 2pm.

Dougall was just a couple of weeks old when he arrived at Goodheart, after he was surrendered by a farmer in poor health.

A spokesman for Goodheart Animal Sanctuary said: "The wonderful people at Goodheart have taken amazing care of this little lamb who would have died without round the clock care and he is now doing fantastic."

Goodheart has taken in more than 270 animals since opening its doors in 2017, and has seen an increase in farm animals in recent months as more farmers switch to sustainable farming sanctuaries.

The spokesman added: "Sanctuaries such as Goodheart depend on on public support and if you want to help any of the animals or future residents there are a few things you can do.

"You can head to their website to donate, shop or become a member. There are also other ways to donate, such as Amazon Smile which lets you choose a charity like Goodheart and donates a percentage every time you shop.

"If you sell items on eBay you can also donate 10 percent of earnings from items sold, so while you’re spring cleaning you can also be helping these beautiful animals. It is that simple.

"So, whether you are an omnivore, vegetarian or vegan I would recommend heading down on one of the open to the public visiting days and see how beautiful these animals are."

Goodheart also provides support to Wiccaweys Rescued Border Collies and Working Sheepdogs Centre in Lincolnshire and The Farm Animal Sanctuary near Evesham.
