If you want to celebrate “a week of revolution, anarchy, poetry, music and darned good fun”, then Worcester will be the place to be in June.

The Worcestershire Litfest and Fringe will be celebrating words from Sunday, June 9 to Saturday June 15, and the programme is out for culture vultures to pick through.

One of the highlights will be the launch of the Festival and the crowning of the new Worcestershire Poet Laureate at The Angel Centre, Angel Place, on Sunday June 9, from 2.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “You can watch the finalists go head to head for a round of live performances, judged by our expert panel made up of our current Worcestershire Poet Laureate, Betti Moretti, the wonderful former Worcestershire Poet Laureate, Suz Winspear, and Dan Burton.”

On Monday June 10, the Worcester Writers’ Circle and Friends will present “Short stories, sketches and scurrilous scribings” at St Swithun’s Institute Hall, from 7pm.

And why not enjoy A Night at the Gallery on Tuesday June 11, with Suz Winspear at the Old Pheasant, from 7.30pm.

The spokesman added: “Come and view the diverse mix of illustrative talent; enjoy the assembly or remarkable poets and relax in the historic surroundings of The Old Pheasant.

And what about The 42 Festival Special, also at The Old Pheasant, on Wednesday June 12, from 7pm?

This will be a darkly fun occasions, when writers and performers will have their eye on Gothic or sci-fi themes, and the featured performers for musical beat poetry relief will be The Antipoet.

The spokesman added: “The Antipoet are the world’s finest exponents of beatrantin’ rhythm ‘n’ views.They cover all subjects, taboo or otherwise, and they are laugh out loud funny.”

Then there’s the Great LitFest Quiz at Titania, Barbourne Road at 6.30pm on June 14. And on June 15 it’s the LitFest Double Whammy Slammy and the end of festival party at The Old Pheasant .
