UP to 100 new flats will be created if permission is granted to convert an office block in Redditch town centre.

Plans have been submitted to convert St Stephen's House, which once housed the town's Job Centre, into 98 flats.

The large red brick office block, just off Redditch Ringway, is currently on the market for a guide price of £3million.

Bromsgrove District Council decided planning permission was not needed for the conversion in July last year, declaring that the change of use from offices to residential would come under permitted developments.

However, Empire Property Concepts Ltd, the firm behind the plans, has now contacted Redditch Borough Council asking to change the combination of one and two bedroom flats included in the scheme.

If the plans go ahead, they would convert the four-storey building in Prospect Hill, into 84 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom flats.

The scheme includes 25 parking spaces at the back of the building and 40 bicycle storage spaces and the company has indicated it will be seeking permission in the future to replace all of the windows in the building.

It was announced in 2017 that Redditch's Job Centre would move to the town's Library.
