THERE is not long to go before the winners of this year’s Worcestershire Education Awards will be announced at a glitzy black-tie event.

Since the launch in January, hundreds of people submitted nominations on their favourite individual or organisation, whether they were a pupil, member of staff, parent or friend.

The awards, now in their third year, has been the largest to date in terms of the number of nominations.

The awards evening will be held at the University of Worcester Arena on Thursday, June 20. There will be a live blog streaming for readers to keep up to date with the awards throughout the night.

A panel of expert judges gathered the nominations together, where a shortlist of finalists was created.

Finalist will find out if they've been successful at a gala evening with a reception, meal, and the chance to hear inspirational speakers before the winners will be announced.

The categories for this year’s awards, which has been organised by the Worcester News in partnership with the University of Worcester, are:

  • College or Post-18 Education & Training Provider
  • Head Teacher/Principal
  • Independent School
  • Community Involvement
  • Special Education Needs
  • Support Staff of the Year
  • New Teacher of the Year
  • Unsung Hero
  • Teacher/Lecturer
  • Early Years Education

This year’s awards have been supported by a host of sponsors including: Worcestershire County Council, The Royal Three Counties Show, Babcock Prime, Worcester Bosch and Heart of Worcestershire College.
