WORK is currently underway to demolish Bromsgrove's Dolphin Centre.

The Advertiser reported last year that the centre would be bulldozed, after a "last chance saloon" to save the building from demolition was refused by councillors.

Full Council voted by majority to release £600k from balances to demolish the Dolphin Centre, after refusing to delay the decision by three months while discussions took place with a potential external operator, who had allegedly shown interest in taking over the hall.

Earlier this year the paper reported the sports hall at the centre had been closed - following health and safety concerns.

Officers from Bromsgrove District Council announced the decision in February following a health and safety inspection.

The hall is located in the former centre which is next door to the newer Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre.

It had been used by badminton players and community groups despite the rest of the centre being closed for some time.
