STUDENTS had to sit exams wearing sodden socks and shoes in Bromsgrove due to a flooded alley, which will soon be closed to address its drainage issues.
'Pig Alley' - the pathway that links South Bromsgrove High with Conway Road - has flooded after the recent deluge of rain that has hit the town and, indeed, the country.
Residents, many of whose children were walking through the floods to sit A-level exams, raised concerns with the councillors.
Drainage work will now take place on the alley to ensure it does not flood again.
Michael Thompson, district councillor for Charford, said: “I got several messages from the parents of students, who had been wading through ankle deep water with soaking shoes and socks, and then sitting A-level exams.”
Rita Dent, county councillor for Bromsgrove Central, added: “As soon as I was alerted to the problem I contacted the relevant officers at the county council.
"I am pleased to confirm that the alley will be closed on July 2 to fix the problems with drainage so that the problem will not occur again.”
Chris Bloore, county councillor for Bromsgrove South, added: “As a council we have to be more reactive to flooding as and when it occurs – I am pleased action has been taken to alleviate this problem.”
