A COMEDY show night has been organised as a tribute to a man who killed himself and to raise funds for a mental health charity.

Richard Price, from Worcester, is hosting a charity event to raise funds for the charity Papyrus.

Mr Price, aged 39 said: “After losing one of my friends through suicide last year I had the opportunity to spend more time with his brother, Alex and learn about all the wonderful things his family were doing to spread awareness.

"I was inspired to get involved.

“I am passionate about helping this charity.

"Everybody involved from the venue to the performers, technicians and caterers are all donating their services for the charity.”

The event came about after Mr Price’s friend, Alastair McDonald, from Malvern, took his own life in May last year.

He said: “The event is very much in Alastair’s name.

"I got involved because Alex would confide in me often about losing his brother and what it was doing to him.

"He told me about Papyrus and how they helped provide support, so I was inspired to help them.”

Papyrus aims to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour.

The event line-up consists of solo performances by Hannah Mac and comedy from Tim Hoskins, Rob Coleman and Darren Archer, all hosted by Birmingham comedy king, Ryan Gough.

All comedians and performers are doing the gig for free.

Raffle and auctions will be held throughout the night, with donated goods including signed merchandise from West Bromwich Albion FC and Manchester United FC.

Hot food by Arden Pig Hire will be provided and to top it off, Worcester pop duo Mel and Him will deliver an 80’s disco to relive the classics.

The entertainment night will be held on August 2, at the Pear Tree Inn, in Smite Lane, Worcester.

Further details of the event including ticket purchasing and donations can all be seen on www.standup4.co.uk.
