The grant scheme is administered by the Worcester News and previous rounds have already benefited dozens of local groups in and around Worcester.

Organisations that have previously benefitted include Oasis Warndon Community Hub, Rushwick Pre School, Worcester Snoezelen, Malvern Special Families, Guys Footprints, Asha Women’s Centre, Worcestershire Pensioners, Action Group, Good Soil Project, Aspie, Hereford and Worcester Dyslexia Association, Art In Minds, Acton Mill Care Farm, St Paul’s Hostel, Oropharyngeal Cancer Support Group, New Hope, Hallow Village Community Group, St John Ambulance and Maggs Day Centre.

The money has gone towards various projects including new books, running numeracy and literacy courses, and helping with transport costs.

In the last round, Amateur Boxing Club, Nora Parsons Centre, Lyppard Hub, Linus, 7th Worcester Guide Company and Fort Royal Park received cash. The six community groups were presented their cheques by the city's former Mayor Jabba Riaz, at a presentation held at the Guildhall in April.

The grant scheme is funded by money collected during Worcester Lions' sleigh tours at Christmas, as well as by raffling Easter eggs and other events.

To apply simply include the full contact details of the person making the application as well as the organisation they are making the applying on behalf of, the amount requested and details on plans for its use.

Groups can apply for a grant up to the value of £300 as part of the scheme.
