STAFF and regulars at a Worcester pub have raised more than £7,000 for a local hospice.

The Plumbers Arms, in Wyld’s Lane, has raised £7,183 for St Richard’s Hospice over the last 14 months, through a variety of events including a quiz, tombola, charity darts night and curry night.

Christine Williams, landlady of The Plumbers Arms, said: “This amount could not have been raised if it was not for the continuous support and generosity of the locals, who have not only bought raffle tickets for the many hamper and meat raffles, but have also sponsored these events.

“There have also been personal donations from certain individuals and Greene King kindly donated a wheelbarrow full of spirits and ales which was kindly organised by Mark Henfield.

“We have worked very hard as a small establishment to reach this impressive amount.”

Mrs Williams also thanked Patricia Butler for her tireless work in helping reach the final total.

Ria Simons, fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, praised the pub for supporting the charity.

“We have been blown away by the incredible work of the Plumbers Arms team in raising such a tremendous amount for our care," she said.

“We are so very grateful to all the staff, punters, supporters and all others who helped reach this total.

“The money they have raised will go towards helping the hospice continue its care to patients and their loved ones when they need it most.”

St Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,300 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

The hospice is also raising funds for the Build 2020 Appeal and is part way through developing a bigger hospice.

The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive is £5.3million.
