WANNABE wordsmiths at a Bromsgrove primary school have seen their work in print thanks to a local author.

Catshill First School and Nursery received funding to bring in scribe Andy Seed as an 'author in residence' to help inspire their children to become better writers.

It has not just been a one-off - Andy has visited the school 12 times to inspire the students' writing and work alongside the staff.

The project culminated in each child choosing a piece of writing that has been published in an anthology entitled Seeds of Inspiration.

This anthology, inspired by Andy, has been given free to each child so that they have a copy to take home and treasure.

Assistant headteacher Adam Rivett said: "Alongside being authors, we now also have some published illustrators as some children have had their drawings published within the book too.

"The books were presented to the children by Andy in a special assembly.

"Andy's messages to the children were to recognise that they are all authors and he made them promise to keep the book forever as a lasting memory of what they achieved at school.

"We are really proud of this project and know the power of having real authors in school.

"Our children have been truly inspired to read, write and edit and we are lucky to have been awarded a grant to make this happen.

"We don't know anyone locally that has undertaken a project like this where the author develops relationships with staff and children and revisits to continue to inspire."
