IT is good to see Worcestershire County Cricket Club seizing on the momentum created by England's World Cup win and upcoming Ashes series.

There are several important initiatives being run by the cricket club, and anything which gets people active and taking part in a team sport is to be commended.

This weekend sees the return of one of the club's successful Soft Ball MEGA Festivals, which sees women of all ages being given the chance to try out the sport of cricket, which teaches those who play it valuable lessons in teamwork, success, failure and fair play.

Any initiative for any sporting activity deserves all the support it can get.

According to the World Health Organisation, Britain was the third most obese nation in Europe in 2018, beaten only by Turkey and Malta.

We need to do as much as we can to promote active lifestyles as the NHS struggles enough to keep going as it is, never mind the often preventable health effects of obesity.

Well done to Worcestershire for taking this step to get people active and living a healthier lifestyle.
