HAVE you been looking for an opportunity to change your career, and take on a job that is both meaningful and enjoyable?

Or perhaps you have just received your A-level results, are ready to tackle a new challenge, but don’t fancy taking on the debt that university entails.

This could be what you have been waiting for!

The Hereford Times is offering someone with no background in publishing or writing the chance to become an apprentice journalist.

This is not a role for dreamers, nor is it a chance to polish your creative writing skills.

You will work hard, learn to write in the concise technical style that is the hallmark of a trained reporter, and find out where to unearth the stories people want to read.

You will also be interested in local life: how people spend their leisure time, what information they need to know, what makes them happy about living in Herefordshire… and what makes them angry.

You will be comfortable talking to people face to face, and on the phone. You will be a whizz at using social media, and keen to learn about the analytical tools that show which of your stories are being well-read and which are not.

You will understand that news does not just happen between 9am and 5pm, and will be willing to work the unsocial hours that reporting sometimes entails.

In return you will get a first a first-class training, including coaching from experts at Facebook, and you’ll be on your way to a fulfilling and purposeful career.
