AN event celebrating LGBTQ+ rights and awareness launched in Worcester.

The organisers of Worcestershire Pride met at Sanctuary Housing's Worcester headquarters on September 2 to launch this year's event, which takes place on September 21.

André Oldfield, chair of Worcestershire Pride, said: "This year we are moving from our original location in Copenhagen Street to the Cornmarket Car Park because it is more central and more visible.

"What we want from Pride is for there to be a place, even if it is only one day per year, where people can come and feel welcome and where we can raise awareness of LGBTQ+ rights."

Nathan Warren, Sanctuary's group director-commercial, said: “It is an honour and a privilege for Sanctuary to support Worcester Pride, which is going to be a fantastic event.

"As one of Worcestershire’s largest employers, we recognise that society has made huge strides in terms of LGBT rights but sadly we are still far from genuine equality.

"We will fight discrimination in any form."
