TWO of Worcester’s leading citizens have voiced the feelings of all decent people about the egg attack on a young mother and her baby,

We have been assured by police that the attack was a racist incident, but even if it were not, it would deserve the strongest condemnation.

No-one was seriously injured in the incident, but that is not the point.

The point is that Worcester residents should be able to go about their business without being subject to attacks like this.

It is the essence of what people mean when they speak of anti-social behaviour, and it must be cracked down on.

Yobs like this, like the cyclists who continue to menace pedestrians in the streets of the city centre, should be dealt with harshly.

Each individual act of theirs may not mean much in itself, but they contribute to an atmosphere in which ordinary people, feel uncertain, perhaps even intimidated, by the thought of going out in public.

There is nor reason why they should feel so, and every reason why thugs like this should be dealt with harshly, for deterrence, if nothing else.
