A FIREFIGHTER from Kidderminster has received a 'silver axe' award for the commitment she has shown to her crew.

Rebecca Harding won the top on-call firefighter recruit of the year award at the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Worcestershire Awards at Worcester Guildhall.

Announcing the award, which was presented by chief fire officer Nathan Travis, the evening's compere group commander Rob Allen said: "It was soon noticed that Rebecca gave maximum effort during the practical and technical training and showed a positive attitude in her efforts to succeed.

“She has shown great commitment to the Service and her team and acted selflessly in support of her peers.

“She is a good role model for what a new recruit firefighter should be.”

Rebecca said: "I cannot put into words how happy I am to receive this award.

“I feel so proud to have received the silver axe for top RDS recruit of the year.

“I would like to thank my family for the help and support they have given me to make things like this possible.

“I would also like to thank the guys on the recruit course who helped build my confidence and helped me when needed throughout the course.”
