A LEOMINSTER woman who has raised more than £35,000 for charity has handed a cheque to the latest charity to benefit from her efforts.

Keen fundraiser Christine Powell and her daughters Selena Powell and Chloe Bonwick raised £1,761 for Hereford Breast Cancer Haven with a charity jailbreak and a series of other events.

Dressed in orange ‘prison’ jumpsuits and with make-up expertly applied by Sam Eggerton, the trio were dropped off two hours from home, relying on the kindness and charity of strangers to get them back to Leominster.

“It took us nine hours to get home this year - and we had a bit of a rush to get the last train at Shrewsbury - but it was good fun for a good cause” Christine said.

With the help of family and friends, Christine, who has been raising money for county charities for several years, organised other events including an Easter bonnet parade and an egg hunt, a number of raffles held in Leominster pub, The Ducker, and collections in Hereford.

Her previous fundraising efforts have benefitted other vital local charities including St Michael’s Hospice, for which she has raised £10,000.

Her latest efforts will help ensure that breast cancer sufferers in Herefordshire continue to receive the care and specialist support they need.

Christine said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Selena Powell, Pam Cade, Kieshia Cade, Chloe Bonwick and Virginia Jacquet for all their hard work, and to Kevin and Sian at The Ducker.”

But Christine has no intention of putting her feet up and is already planning fundraisers for St Peter’s night shelter and the Air Ambulance.
