A PENSIONER who dropped his wallet in Kidderminster on his 79th birthday has thanked the kind person who handed it in with more than £400 still inside.

John Marks, from Wolverley, was dining out for his birthday on Tuesday (September 24), but when he went to pay the bill he realised he must have dropped his wallet while shopping in the town centre that morning.

He told The Shuttle: "I didn't think I'd ever see it again. It wasn't just the money - the wallet is important to me. It was a gift from my son.

"I was carrying my walking stick and my umbrella and I must have dropped it without noticing."

After calling around the shops he had visited and having no luck, John accepted the wallet and money was likely lost forever - that was until he received a call from his bank.

"Barclays called me that afternoon and said John what have you done with your wallet?," John said. "Some kind person had handed it in and every note was still in there.

"They left no name or address so I just wanted to say thank you.

"You don't hear of nice things like this happening very often. It made my birthday."

John will be celebrating his 79th with a family party this Friday.
