A POPULAR Kidderminster town centre pub is set to reopen next week after being saved from closure.

Indepedent business owner Adam Wilcox from Kidderminster will relaunch The Penny Black pub as 'Pennies' in the Bull Ring after a £75,000 refurb next week.

The 34-year-old, who runs nearby bar The Vault, signed a 20-year lease in July after previous owners JD Wetherspoon made a "commercial decision" to close the pub down in September.

Now, Adam has plans to build on the legacy of the town centre pub and eatery, introducing live music events, a weekly karaoke night, quiz nights and retro discos.

Adam has confirmed that the pub will officially open on Saturday, October 12 from 8am, and guests can watch a top Michael Jackson tribute performance in the evening.

The business owner, who has worked in the industry for 12 years, said: "The Penny Black is an epicentre and the number one pub in town.

"Whether you like it or hate it, people here all know it and have used it.

"We are building on what's already here, bringing brand new furniture, a new kitchen, and new equipment.

"We are ready to go."

Adam has funded the venture himself and he says the reopening will be creating 15 to 20 new jobs.

He and his team are working to tight deadlines prior to the relaunch, and says that past failures in the management business has got him to where he is now.

The pub owner also has plans for a career shift in the future, hoping to someday become a politician.

He added: "It's not just a business to me, I want it to be a nice pub for everybody."
