A SERVICE was held in memory of beloved pets.

Sunday September 22 saw the Rev. Gary Crellin, Vicar of the Parishes of Powick, Guarlford and Madresfield with Newland (The Old Hills Malvern Group of Churches) attending Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter for a service giving thanks and remembering our pets no longer with us.

Claire Tregunna from WARS said: "Animals play a massive and meaningful part in our lives and the pain and sorrow when they pass away can be unbearable so this service, a slight departure from the usual Pet Blessing Service carried out at the Shelter, was a poignant message for those attending to reflect and give thanks for the time and companionship we shared."

The Rev Gary also brought along labels so all could write a message remembering their beloved pets which were then tied to the May Tree (another emotional reminder as this tree was planted in memory of our Chair’s late mother). An added extra for everyone was the labels had perforated hearts so everyone could take these home as a keep-sake reflecting on the afternoon plus a card outlining a Prayer of Hope following a Pet Bereavement.

The event ended with tea and cake and all those attended felt it was a heart wrenching but lovely understanding of how we feel when loosing a beloved pet.
