THE Health and Safety Executive is reviewing its investigation into the death of a mobile electrician in Kidderminster after an inquest concluded he was accidentally crushed by a lorry.

Christopher Lee Rogers, of Wheatcroft Close, Halesowen, died after working on a lorry at Hickmans haulage and transportation firm in Foley Business Park on September 19 last year.

A three-day inquest into the 51-year-old's death was held at Stourport Coroner's Court last week, when a jury heard how Mr Rogers became trapped between the wheel and body of the lorry when the vehicle lowered onto him, applying pressure to his neck and causing him to suffer cardio respiratory failure.

The inquest heard that the lorry had a problem with its suspension which could be raised and lowered by controls on a tablet, and that no safety measures were put in place at the time.

The Health and Safety Executive, which launched an enquiry into the incident last year, has now said it is reviewing its investigation following the coroner's findings.

A HSE spokesman said: "We’re currently reviewing our investigation to take account of the recent coroner’s inquest into Christopher Rogers’ death. At this stage, our investigation is still ongoing."

Victoria Hickman, office manager at Hickmans of Kidderminster, said: "We can confirm that Christopher Rogers was working at our premises as an employee of BW Rogers when he tragically died.

"The inquest has now been held and has concluded with an accidental death verdict. Our sympathies extend to his family and colleagues."

Kidderminster Shuttle:

Mr Rogers' brother and colleague Mick Rogers said the family has been forced to accept his death was a "tragic accident".

He told The Shuttle: "Chris was called down to Hickmans to investigate an ongoing air suspension problem.

"We heard at the inquest that the suspension dropped on its own accord for no reason.

"As a family and as a company we accept that, yes, there should have been axle stands in place, but we still have no explanation for why the air suspension deflated.

"We're not happy but we do have to accept as a family that this was a tragic accident."
