A BENCH will be placed on the city’s riverside to commemorate a councillor who died suddenly earlier this year.
Worcester City Council agreed to pay tribute to Councillor Stuart Denlegh-Maxwell by placing a memorial bench in the city’s newly-created Riverside park.
Cllr Denlegh-Maxwell died suddenly in June aged 60.
Cllr Andy Stafford, who represented Claines ward with Cllr Denlegh-Maxwell, paid tribute to his former friend and colleague at a full city council meeting on Tuesday (November 19).
He said: “The River Severn was of particular significance to Stuart, in his childhood he would swim in the river, he had a long term association with the rowing club, and would regularly walk his dog Daisy along the riverside.
“Stuart was a strong supporter of the Riverside park and took a keen interest in its development.
“Stuart was always positive, kind and compassionate and he had so much more to give Worcester.”
