SIR – I was fortunate enough to pay tribute and be part of a wonderful service celebrating the life of a true Titan of the City Robin Sykes who touched all who were fortunate enough to have crossed this gentle soul’s path.

Robin passionately stood up for his beliefs and values, despite the odds never shied away from telling the truth and facing up to the oppressor or those in the wrong.

One thing he did shy away from however was the public limelight and often deflected the great work and effort he had personally put into the success of various projects he was working on, always stepping away working tirelessly in the background.

Many new him from WCT, Worcester Palestine Friendship group, from Amnesty international Worcester and as a founding member of St Paul’s Hostel.

There is no better example of Love not Hate in modern times in our city than Robin. He was the embodiment of patience, persistence, diplomacy and modesty.

Of course, words cannot justify all he had done and achieved and there are many people who new him more than i and that could write more eloquently and in depth.

But a measure of a man in my culture is his conduct, trustworthiness and exemplary character, Robin had all these qualities and more and therefore he was able to reach out across cultures and class and religion.

I only had the privilege of working with him in a small period of his life but the impression and mark he left has been etched firmly in my conscience.

I only wish I had a fraction of the courage and charisma that Robin had, may he rest in peace and love and that God bless his kind soul who killed many with his infectious smile and his beautiful manners.

I hope the city can honour his legacy by carrying on the great projects that he had been so instrumental in leading.
