TALENTED actors and singers from Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society recently presented an entertaining and touching musical tribute to their longest serving member, the late Sonia Armstrong.

A spokesman said: "WODS – including ex-members of the youth group, WODYS - staged three wonderful performances of Musical Memories highlighting many of the shows Sonia – known as Worcester’s own Doris Day – took part in and also musicals that had won NODA awards for the society.

"The concert included everything from Hey Big Spender and Anything You Can Do to a fitting finale with songs from Les Misérables, ending with the emotional Bring Him Home and One Day More."

Over 73 years Sonia, who was born in Worcester and educated at the Girls Grammar School, "demonstrated her considerable talent and professionalism, initially as a solo dancer and in a number of leading and supporting roles".

From 1983 to 1985 Sonia was the society’s president.

WODS next performance at the Swan Theatre is Kipps, the new Half a Sixpence musical, from April 21 to April 24, and WODYS next show is Shrek the Musical, from August 4 to August 8.
