A FRIGHTENED Bromsgrove mum has told how she was almost hit by a car recklessly driven by suspected drug dealers - as police issued an appeal to track a runaway culprit.

Two men in a white Volkswagen Golf were fleeing police officers when they drove straight over the busy roundabout between Burcot Lane and Birmingham Road and collided with a black Peugeot 206 at around 2.35pm on Tuesday afternoon (January 28).

The Golf had sped out of a car park in Burcot Lane after police attempted to detain the occupants on suspicion of supplying drugs.

Eyewitness Safa Sion said the car then mounted the pavement, almost hitting her before stopping as its driver and passenger attempted to escape on foot, although one of them was later caught.

Safa said: "I was quite shook up. I was trying to take pictures of the suspects but my hands were shaking so bad.

"I was walking down All Saints Road from Burcot Lane and I heard a screech of wheels on the roundabout not far behind me.

"I thought it was someone going around the island too fast maybe but when I heard the second screech closer, I turned around to see two cars going over the island opposite each other and the suspect car (white Golf) speeding through the middle of them from Burcot Lane.

"The two cars slammed their brakes on but there wasn't much they could do - they both slammed into either side of the suspects' car and it came speeding onto the path towards me.

"I stepped out of the way and they stopped right next to the open gates into the Vauxhall garage where they are doing work.

"The passenger climbed out of the window and ran into someone's garden and the driver ran into the garage but climbed up the scaffolding and jumped over the fence. The car was a total write-off."

West Mercia Police confirmed that a man in his 40s from the West Midlands was arrested in connection with the supply of Class A drugs and was later released under investigation.

Now, they are appealing for witnesses to help trace the man who evaded capture.

Detective Sargeant Alex Farmer said: "If you saw the white VW Golf, registration starting AD13, prior to the collision or driving in the Bromsgrove area we would like to hear from you especially those with dash-cam footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sargeant Farmer on 01562 826287 or email Alex.farmer@westmercia.pnn.police.uk, quoting incident number 362s of Tuesday 28 January.

Police also provided an update on the condition of the occupants of the Peugeot that was hit.

“Unfortunately a member of the public has been injured during a collision with a vehicle that failed to stop for police," Detective Sergeant Farmer added.

"She was taken to hospital along with her passenger. Both received medical treatment for their minor injuries and have since been discharged."
