HEREFORD Cathedral is on the hunt for new choristers, with an open morning set to showcase life in the choir.

Boys aged six to eight who enjoy singing are invited to join Hereford Cathedral for the annual Chorister Open Morning, which will give boys an opportunity to experience singing as part of a cathedral choir.

Held in the historic cloisters, the morning will give families the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes, as the choir begins the search for three or four new boys who enjoy singing to join its close-knit community.

Last year was a wonderful year for Hereford Cathedral Choir with two high-profile performances outside of the UK, travelling to France in June to take part in services and events commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day and ending the year with a visit to Bologna, organised by the British Embassy in Rome. In 2018, the choir also travelled to Rome for performances in St Peter’s Square and the Sistine Chapel.

Geraint Bowen, Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral said: "Being part of a cathedral choir can provide countless opportunities for truly memorable performances, as our choristers have discovered over the last year.

"We are looking for boys who enjoy singing and being part of a team, and it is not necessary for them to have had any previous choral experience or to play an instrument, although that is certainly an advantage. When we select choristers it is musical potential we are looking for. It is the training they receive at the cathedral and the hard work that they put in which produces the results."

Places on the open morning, which takes place on March 7 from 9.30am to 12 noon are free of charge but advance booking is essential as space is limited. To register for a place please email office@herefordcathedral.org or call 01432 374 212.
