AN Easter appeal has been launched by a group of Wyre Forest pensioners to help raise money for their weekly friendship club.

Members of the Tulip Tree Friendship Group, which meets in Kidderminster every Tuesday, are appealing for donations of Creme Eggs for their latest fundraiser.

Since the beginning of the year, the group - which includes a super-knitting 98-year-old - has been busy making a variety of knitted Easter creations which they hope to fill with chocolate eggs to sell and raise funds for the valued service.

Money made from the chocolate-filled chicks, hens and bunnies will go towards activities and crafts for the group's 18 members.

The Age UK Friendship Group, which has been based at the Tulip Tree Centre for several years, aims to raise self-esteem and tackle loneliness among the elderly population in the area and is let by volunteer Chris Hall.

Sam Humphray, CEO of Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest, said: "The older you become, the more important it is to have strong friendships and social connections, which is why the Tulip Tree Friendship Group is so special and why I would encourage local people to support and visit the Group.

"The very fact that the members are committed to making these fantastic Easter creations to help raise funds for activities and crafts shows how much the group means to people, so if you are able to help the group, I would urge you to please get in touch.”
