THE mini golf course at Wolverley was under water earlier today after rising levels in the River Stour caused the nearby canal to flood.

Canal and River Trust workers have been on site near to The Lock pub since the early hours of this morning (Monday) after a night of heavy rainfall.

Wyre Forest District Council said that six homes, a pub and cafe were affected.

Officials say the water levels are now starting to fall.

A Canal and River Trust spokesman said: "The River Stour has been in flood following the huge amount of rainfall in the area. We don’t look after the river, this is managed by the Environment Agency.

"With the river in flood, this has then flooded the adjacent Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal.

"A team from the Canal and River Trust has been on site since around 4am this morning managing the situation on the canal and trying to reduce the water levels.

"The water levels are starting to go back down on the River Stour so we have opened the flood paddles on the canal to move the water back into the river."
