A GROUP which provides a social life-line to its members, while supporting the National Trust, is under threat of closure.

Members of Worcester and Malvern Centre in Support of National Trust say they won't be able to carry on if a vital committee place cannot be filled.

The group was founded in 1971, with the aim to promote the work, policies and membership of the National Trust.

A spokesman for the Worcester and Malvern Centre in Support of National Trust said: “ We do not have a treasurer at the moment and this situation cannot continue much longer. The committee has now agreed that a book-keeper should be appointed to prepare the accounts.

“This will greatly reduce the financial workload but we cannot continue without a new treasurer to liaise between the committee and the book-keeper.”

The spokesman added the group tackles social isolation for many of its elderly members, by providing a vibrant social side, through an organised programme of talks, outings, holidays and social activities.

Members learn more about the National Trust's work and, in so doing, raising funds to support projects at properties in its care.

This centre’s membership, stands at almost 500, drawn from the Worcester, Malvern and Pershore areas and is open to members of National Trust, National Trust for Scotland and qualifying volunteers.

Anyone wanting to join can contact the group’s membership secretary, Janet Bailey, by emailing: membership@worcestermalvernntcentre.org.uk or by phoning: 01905 454455.
