TWO Redditch secondary schools fell well below the national average for GCSE results in 2019 – but two others comfortably exceeded it, with one ranked among the best in Worcestershire.

St Augustine’s Catholic High School topped the county rankings for the key Progress 8 measurement and was also in the top four in two other important categories.

However, Trinity High School recorded below average figures in two categories, while Tudor Grange Academy’s results were among the worst in Worcestershire.

Only 21% – just over one in five – of GCSE students at Tudor Grange achieved Grade 5 (equivalent to the old C grade) or higher in English and maths – the lowest of any mainstream school in the county.

Tudor also performed poorly in the Progress 8 and Attainment 8 indicator categories, while Trinity did slightly better but still only achieved 25% with Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

St Augustine’s (58%) and Studley High School (55%) were well above the national mean of 46.7% in the Grade 5 results, while Arrow Vale Academy hovered around the average across the board.

‘Attainment 8’ is a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to eight GCSE qualifications that include English, maths and several other core subjects.

‘Progress 8’ is a type of value-added score measuring how much students have progressed during those five years compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.

The Advertiser has compiled a table below of the key performance indicators, with above average scores in green, average in black and below average in red.

Redditch Advertiser:

There was better news for Tudor Grange in A-Levels with its results in those exams much better than for GCSEs – indeed, it was the only Redditch school to better the national average Progress score.

The progress score identifies how much progress A-level students have made between the end of Key Stage 4 (Year 11) and the end of their A-level studies, compared to similar pupils across England.

St Augustine’s progress score was below average but it did achieve almost 20% of pupils recording grades of AAB (2 A’s and a B) or higher as seen in our table below.

Redditch Advertiser:

Trinity High and Arrow Vale both recorded below-average results across the categories, with the latter failing to produce a single student achieving AAB grades or higher.
