A POPULAR Peaky Blinders themed boxing event is set to return to the city to mark 100 years since the start of the roaring 1920s.

The Peaky Blinders fight night will return to Worcester’s Guildhall on March 28 when spectators can see 14 bouts of boxing. This is the 10th boxing event organised by Tom Whitby, from OMG Promotions.

Mr Whitby, from Worcester, said: “We brought it back after we were contacted by so many people who love taking part in these events. They enjoy the 1920s theme of the show, watching live boxing and raising money for charity.”

He added: “It’s been 100 years since the mark of the 1920s so we thought we can’t ignore doing another event to celebrate this. We needed at least one more Peaky Blinders event. We love to see everyone make such an effort with their fantastic outfits and we look forward to seeing all the Grace Burgess and Tommy Shelbys.”

By order of the Peaky Blinders, the night will include live boxing, a live band, bar, fight betting, a gypsy fortune teller and prize for the best dressed.

The event will start at 5pm until 11pm on Saturday, March 28 and is sponsored by Haus Installations.

The 28 fighters have received eight weeks’ worth of free training at The Tolly Centre, which is run by Worcester Community Trust, in Rowan Avenue.

Boxing coaches Shawn Lacroix, Michael Mooney and Darryl Swallow have been running these fitness sessions.

All the profits will go to Birmingham Children’s Charity, for which Mr Whitby hopes to raise £2,000. He said he hopes to raise a further £1,000 for a young boy, Bobby Barnett, who has a rare genetic disorder called Angleman syndrome and epilepsy. Angelman syndrome affects the nervous system and causes severe physical and learning disabilities.

Bobby, aged five, has also recently been diagnosed with a mild case of scoliosis and has slight dislocation of the hips and requires 24-hour care. His family are asking for money to buy him a specialised bed which has been recommended by his occupational therapist.

Standard tickets are still available at £35, but VIP tickets are sold out. If you want to get out your flapper dress or put your baker boy cap on, then you can buy a ticket from WCBA’s Facebook page.
