A HEADTEACHER who has been described as a “legend” has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award.

Emily Hobson, from Oasis Academy Warndon, has been nominated for Headteacher of the Year Award by Naomi Cooke.

Miss Cooke said in the nomination form: “Emily is an inspirational leader. Her focus for our children and drive to give them the very best that they can shines through in everything she does.

“The focus is on high quality education for our children but is also interleaved with character education and a holistic approach that enables our children to display the characteristics they need for life.

“She has integrity, drive and a team who wholeheartedly follow her vision and wish the best for our children.

“The passion she shows is evident every day, from greeting parents at the gate, driving the minibus so our parents could visit young voices, working across the trust as the national behaviour lead, doing jobs at the academy in the holidays to cut costs and ensuring that excellence and quality teaching is every area of our academy.

“She deserves this award. This is not just a job for Emily, she is passionate about the children and serves them, but she is also a passionate advocate for her staff.

“Emily fights for the best for our children and has secured funding for a new mezzanine area that will provide extra teaching space and a wraparound/food teach area.

“Every day Emily gives her best and she wholly deserves this award for what she is doing in our community and for our children. She is a legend.”

Miss Hobson came to the school in Edgeworth Close in 2014 as an associate principal and helped to achieve the good rating from Ofsted in 2015.

She took over as headteacher three years ago.

She said: “I was very surprised and privileged to have been nominated for the award.

“We are extremely proud of our academy and the journey it has been on. From achieving a Good Ofsted in 2015 and then a brilliant outcome in November 2019, where the inspector wrote in the report that she considered the provision to be Outstanding.

“Our curriculum puts the children and their character development first, while ensuring extremely high standards of academic standards too. This enable our children to be given the best chance possible for their futures and means they are in the top 10% nationally for progress.

"Equally importantly, our children develop grit and emotional resilience from our character focussed learning approach to give them the platform the need for whichever direction they choose.

“I am very lucky to be supported by a fantastic staff team who give 100% to the academy, children and community."

"That has been even more apparent in recent weeks where people have been truly selfless in what they’ve given to ensure our children are safe, have food to eat and have some brilliant online lessons to follow from their teachers. I would like to use this opportunity to let them know what an awesome team they are and how lucky I feel I am to have the honour of leading them.”
