THE family of Oscar Saxelby-Lee have booked their return flight home from Singapore after he finished specialist treatment for a rare form of cancer.

Oscar and his parents Olivia Saxelby and Jamie Lee are set to come back to Worcester after spending more than six months in Singapore while the six-year-old successfully underwent lifesaving CAR-T therapy and a second bone marrow transplant.

He is only the second child in the world to have received the specialist treatment, which was paid for through a huge crowdfunding appeal.

His parents said, via the Hand in Hand for Oscar Facebook page: “Guess what.... FLIGHT IS BOOKED! Watch this space! Singapore Airlines.”

We want to give Oscar a warm welcome home so we’re asking our readers to make a welcome home poster or card for the six-year-old from St John’s.

We’ll print some of the best in the paper.

Recent test results show Oscar is cancer-free after gruelling treatment, which saw him spend six months in National University Hospital in Singapore.

The brave boy won the hearts of the local community, which backed an appeal to eventually raise £600,000 for his treatment and a further £113,000 for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. His parents had begged for help to raise the money after being told that, despite a previous bone marrow transplant, Oscar’s T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia had returned and no other curative treatment options were available on the NHS.
