AN environmental group has launched a website and changed its name following residents requests to help out with projects in other parts of Worcester.

Following success in Warndon Villages, The VEG - The Villages Environmental Group has decided to change its name to The WEG - Worcester Environmental Group.

They have also launched their website theweg.org.uk this week.

Putting people and planet at the heart of everything they do, co-founders Paul Snookes and Alison Morgan said: “We are really excited with this new opportunity to help even more of our community and environment to thrive.

"What is good for nature is also really good for our physical and mental health.”

With a pool of around thirty volunteers, over the last year, The WEG has worked with Warndon Parish and Worcester City Council to begin restoring three ancient meadows, has created its first native wildflower roadside verge, and has looked after traditional orchards for residents’ wellbeing and to attract more pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and birds, bats and other wildlife.

These successes haven’t gone unnoticed in other parts of the city with other organisations now working with The WEG on exciting projects outside of Warndon Villages.

Alison said: “We are fortunate to be working with Worcester Canal Group on a wildlife corridor along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal from Diglis to Sixways and with Oasis Community Hub Warndon on their community garden. We can also perhaps make some space in our gardens for a bird box, a bug hotel, a pond or a hedgehog box."

The WEG makes bird boxes to Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) plans and accepts donations to cover costs and help make more wildlife boxes.

Volunteer events are held twice a month and information can be found on social media, the website or alternatively contact Paul Snookes at paulsnookes@gmail.com for further information.
