WITH reference to your recent articles regarding the closure/redevelopment of the Maypole Pub in Bassnage Road, Halesowen.

As a resident living round the corner for over 40 years, I strongly object to it being redeveloped into another convenience store.

A short distance away you have a Tesco shop and a short distance in the other direction a general store/ newsagents in Thornhill Road. If the new store goes ahead it will probably be the end of that shop.

Then there’s a Cost Cutter on the main road. Let’s hope the Friends of the Maypole win their campaign to keep the pub open, if not, then the best solution would be to build new houses. Let’s also hope Dudley Council refuse planning.
