Worcestershire Women’s Rapids are targeting greater consistency and knockout cricket as they build on a season of growth and hard-earned lessons.
The team fell short of reaching the knockout stages in both the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the Vitality T20 Blast, finishing fifth in Women’s League 2 with a record of four wins and four losses.
Clare Boycott, captain of the Rapids, said: "It was a very up and down year for sure.
"We struggled to get a string of wins together to really give us the momentum to push for knockouts in both competitions, and in short format cricket against some really good sides, that will hurt you."
Despite the mixed results, Boycott praised the progress made by younger players and new signings throughout the season.
She said: "There are still lots of positives to take from the season, with youngsters stepping up and new signings performing on the big stage which is what you want."
The Rapids recorded key wins against Kent, Sussex, and Derbyshire, but missed out on progressing to the later stages.
In the One Day format, they managed only two victories but made a statement with a dominant nine-wicket win over Middlesex.
Boycott reflected on standout moments, including her own second century in two years and Amy Maund’s 4-7 in a dramatic win over Kent.
She said: "Beating Middlesex in the One Day Cup by nine wickets was a real highlight, and the three-run win over Kent in the Blast too, both showed our ability to fight against two top teams."
Looking ahead to 2027, she identified two key areas for improvement.
She said: "We need to work on our consistency and get better at batting for long periods; at times we lacked that and we were bowled out in under 50 overs in quite a few games.
"In One Day Cricket, it is so important to bat your overs, building an innings is key when you are batting first or chasing a total, and without that platform we made it hard for ourselves."
