JASON Welborn has reflected on what he describes as the best week of his life when he lifted the British Middleweight title, celebrated his birthday and married his long-term partner inside a hectic seven days.

The 32-year-old upset the odds to claim the Lord Lonsdale belt by spit decision from champion Tommy Langford just four weeks ago but insists there is much more to come

“It's an amazing feeling to have achieved a goal I set for myself,” he said. “It was the best week of my life; winning two crowns as I got a British Title and my wife - Rachel. Not many boxers will achieve what I did in a week.”

Now, with talks of a rematch ongoing, thanks to his long-term sponsors, Daneways, a Dudley-based Road construction company who Welborn used to work for, the Rowley Regis fighter is ticking over waiting for a date to ensure its repeat rather than revenge when the pair meet again later this year.

“Thanks to Daneways I’m able to remain full-time,” he added. “I’ve known Dean (Hiscox, owner) a long time. He was a friend before I started to work for him on the roads.

“As he is an ex professional boxer himself he knows how hard it is without the support behind you which he never got. Having to work to support your family and train at the same time is hard and can be impossible at times.

“Dean started to sponsor me full-time some time ago and that’s allowed me to train daily and I'm then able to accept fights and have a full camp which brings out the best in me.

“I can't thank him enough as he has supported me through the bad and good times in my career not just when I'm winning. I’m also really grateful to the likes of Alliance Scaffolding and Amphion Construction For their support; along with everyone at BCB Promotions particularly Errol Johnson and Paul Mann.

“I've got the best team around me -in and out the ring - and the only way is up. There’s plenty more to come from Team Welborn.”
