HALESOWEN manager John Hill was pleased to take a point from Tuesday night's cagey derby clash at Stourbridge.

The Yeltz came from behind to earn a share of the spoils from a scrappy encounter at a packed War Memorial Ground.

Striker James Roberts quickly cancelled out Luke Benbow’s second half opener that had only come about after a mix-up at the back between Dan Bragoli and Matt Baker.

Hill thought his side invited too much pressure in the second half of the contest and was happy they hold out for a point.

He said: "I thought the first half was pretty even and we were pleased with our performance at half time.

"We played a lot of front-foot football but then Jack Rea has got injured and we've been forced to make a change at half time.

"Then, in the second half, we've probably played too deep. We spoke before the game about how we wanted to play on the front foot and condense the space, and I think it worked really well.

"In the second half we've played too deep, the midfield has gone deep and we've had to defend too much.

"To be honest, I think we were glad to hear the whistle and to go home with a point."

On Stour's goal, he added: "Young Matt Baker is absolutely gutted. He's seen something that no-one else has seen, he's passed to Dan Bragoli who didn't expect it and you just don't give chances to Luke Benbow around the area. His finish was quality but both goals were scrappy how they came about.

"At least we went forward and showed a bit of character after going behind. I thought we'd get a bit of a reaction from Stourbridge tonight after their defeat at the weekend, so we're pleased to come here and get a point."

The boss was also full of praise for goalscorer Roberts.

He said: "He worked so hard, like he does in every game. His goals will come because you can't work that hard and not get your rewards. I'm sure he will."

The point at Amblecote followed up last Saturday's draw at home to Biggleswade by the same scoreline.

The Yeltz will now welcome St Neots to the Grove this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Meanwhile, Halesowen have been drawn away at Matlock Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The first round qualifying is scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday, September 8 with each winning club receiving £6,000 from The FA prize fund.
