HALESOWEN Cycling Club continued their strong end to the season, with both Patrick Fotheringham and Henry Lloyd-Langston gaining promotion to second category.

Fotheringham gave the Halesowen academy their eighth win of the season when he scored his second successive victory in the Abingdon evening criterium.

The 20-year-old infiltrated a breakaway group of five riders which gained 30 seconds on the field, and then had no difficulty in out-sprinting his companions.

Lloyd-Langston came close to the win in the first of two criteriums organised at the Birmingham Business Park on Sunday, coming second out of a breakaway group of five riders. He then followed that up with fifth in another event, to secure the points necessary for promotion.

For both riders that marked a successful comeback after missing the middle of the summer cycling season due to health issues, with Lloyd-Langston having to recover from a broken collarbone sustained in the Giro del Mon in late May.

Junior rider Kinga Ingram took part in a senior’s women race at Salt Ayre taking a fine second place before going on to the National Junior Tour of the North West. A 13th place on the time trial was followed by 6th in the second stage, a hilly road race, and second on the final stage giving an excellent fourth place overall.

Next week Kinga is representing the West Midlands in the national school games.

Elsewhere, Halesowen academy rider Cameron Biddle secured 12th place in the final one of three North Wales National B races, won by his former Halesowen team mate Matt Clarke on the final bend of an uphill finish, with another former Halesowen rider Jack Stanton-Warren ending up third overall in the series.

Meanwhile the Friday night track league at the Manor Abbey Velodrome is reaching its climax, with one event remaining and overall victory looking secure for Chateau Impney’s Luke Hardman.
