WORCESTER City hotshot Dave Reynolds is the subject of an approach from Redditch United.

Excluding county cups, the striker has 34 goals in 54 appearances for City since joining in the summer of 2017 from Malvern Town where he weighed with more than 50 in his final campaign.

Paul Smith, formerly in charge of Bromsgrove Sporting, was unveiled as Redditch's new manager on Monday in the same release that announced the departure of predecessor Paul Davis after only seven league matches in charge.

The Reds filed notice of their intent to speak to Reynolds as part of a double swoop on Sunday which also saw a move made for Sporting goalkeeper Reece Francis, Smith’s number one during the end of his tenure at the Victoria Ground.

But Snape has not given up hope of retaining City’s “talisman” with talks set to continue at tomorrow’s home league match with Quorn (7.45), one Reynolds is set to miss with ankle ligament damage.

“We won’t be waiving the notice period and I have contacted Dave to tell him about the enquiry,” said Snape.

“He has been an integral part of what we do from the day he joined. His goal ratio is very impressive, he knows where the back of the net is and has become something of a talisman.

“We had an initial chat on the phone and negotiations will continue this week when we hope he will be able to do some straight-line running.

“His progress with the injury is the most important thing at the moment and hopefully that will get a kick start. He feels ready to do some jogging so we will assess his fitness again after that.”

Meanwhile, City have managed to resist Malvern Town’s swoop for flexible frontrunner James Baldwin.

“James indicated at training last week that he would like to stay,” said Snape.

“He started (at Wolverhampton Sporting Community) on Saturday, which was always going to happen anyway, and contributed a goal as well as setting one up in a frustrating and disappointing team performance.

“We got the right result, though, that was the main thing and James played his part which was good to see. Long may that continue.”

Reynolds will be joined by Mat Birley and Andy Gallinagh on the sidelines for the Quorn match with midfielder Chris Withington unavailable and goalkeeper Matt Gwynne a doubt with a hand injury.

Defender Jamie Smith, withdrawn with a nasty gash to the head on Saturday, required 23 stitches which will not be taken out until next week. His fitness will be gauged after that.

Kyonn Evans returns while new recruit Sam Gilder could come into contention having featured as City’s reserves beat their Fairfield Villa counterparts 1-0 on Saturday.
