STOURBRIDGE were rewarded with a bonus point victory from their journey to Peterborough Lions for a first-ever encounter between the clubs.

The visitors' greater experience ment they could dictate play from the start but chances were not turned into points until the eighteenth minute.

Stour worked their way upfield after a Nigel Mukarati steal and a Rickie Aley chip which led to a lineout that was quickly taken and used by Nick Cairns.

The ball was recycled and Aley saw some space out left, he chipped to Joe Heatley who touched down and Aley added the extras.

It took two minutes for Stour to score their second, this time by inspirational skipper Llyr Griffiths.

A scrum on half way saw Adam Shaw make a superb break before being hauled down five metres out.

The ball was recycled to the right and Griffiths dotted down however the conversion was missed.

Adam Shaw got his first-half reward just three minutes later following some good work by Niall Gibbons and Nick Cairns, proving their worth as mobile back row players.

Shaw made a penetrating, jinking run, breaking several tackles before scoring the try, Aley converted.

Stour secured the bonus point on 30 minutes after Dan Rundle was held up over the line and, from the resulting five metre scrum, Nick Cairns picked up and powered over.

Aley's conversion made the score 0-26 and no more points were added before half time.

Stour kicked-off the second half with 14 men following a yellow card for Nick Murphy 40 seconds before the break and the hosts began to dominate territory.

Breaks by Rory White, Marius Andrijauskas and Tom Lewis put Stourbridge under pressure but the defence held firm.

The visitors were again a man down following a yellow for Sam Wilkes and a penalty try gave the Lions some hope.

It was Stour's Hal Riley who broke the pattern after a crunching tackle dispossessed the Lions and won a penalty as he gathered the loose ball.

Aley slotted home but the Lions came roaring back through Tom Lewis and Suva Maasi.

Stour's defence was tested once again but remained unbeaten and after winning a penalty cleared their lines.

Peterborough knocked-on inside their 22 and from the resulting scrum the ball was fed to the speedy Rundle on the left who ran 20 metres and beat three defenders to touch down.

Replacement Chris Scott converted to make the final score 7-36.

Stourbridge return to Stourton Park on Saturday for a clash with free-scoring table toppers Hinckley.
