LEE Hughes donned the goalkeeper gloves to help Halesowen pick up a vital away win at strugglers Bedworth United last Saturday.

The former Premier League striker showed his competitiveness at the opposite end of the pitch after goalkeeper Dan Platt suffered a shoulder injury towards the end of the first half.

The game remained a stalemate at 0-0 until Yeltz defender Asa Chalton headed home the winner in the 88th minute.

It saw Town bag their first league win since the opening day to move to 13th in Southern League Central.

Assistant manager Matt Clarke was pleased his side came out on top despite the disruption.

He said: "We went there needing a win and got it.

"We started well and created a few chances but didn't take them. We then lost Dan Platt and that set us back.

"Lee was just the stupidest one we've got and had grabbed the gloves and got the shirt on before anyone could say different!

"He did alright but didn't have a lot to do until the end when he made a couple of saves."

The Yeltz followed that win by putting a youthful Wolves side to the sword in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Goals from and Roland Agbor, Christos Shelis and James Roberts gave the home side a 3-0 win.

Cameron Gregory made his debut in goal after a loan move from Shrewsbury Town following the injury to Platt, who is now set for a month on the sidelines.

Halesowen will welcome Rushall Olympic to the Grove this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as they look to put a run of wins together.

Clarke said: "We are expecting a tough game because they haven't lost many this season.

"They have a good side but for whatever reason they haven't quite clicked yet. Hopefully that won't start on Saturday."

Meanwhile, former Wolves hitman Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and midfielder Ahmed Ali have now left the club.

Ali, who is set to relocate with his family to Qatar in January, will link up with former boss Paul Smith at Redditch United after requesting the move.

Ebanks-Blake has found game time hard to come by since his summer arrival and has also called time on his spell at the Grove.
