NICK Adams ran in the winning try as Dudley Kingswinford edged out Hereford last Saturday.

DK won 17-12 away from home as they continued to pick up wins without being at their fluid best.

Connah Jones and Sam Vaughan, who converted his own try, put the Heathbrook outfit ahead before the home side battled back to level in the second period.

However, Nick Adams bagged the decisive score to hand his side a narrow win on the road.

When a clearance kick by Hereford was fielded by Vaughan just inside the DK half, he was able to return the ball for his forwards to gather. They recycled the ball in the tightest of spaces before Adams was able to break the line and sprint clear.

Director of Rugby Neil Shillingford said: "It was an improved performance from us but not the perfect performance by any means.

"We have got to be pleased with a win on the road but were disappointed not to come away with the bonus point because we target them so much.

"We created the opportunities, got held up but also defended well. So there are a lot of points to be pleased with and a lot of things we can still work on.

"We felt our set-piece lineout wasn't working as it can and we worked on that and it was much-improved.

"The one thing we're not doing is racking up the points or creating the opportunities we did last season, which is something else we are going to work on.

"Overall, we can't be too disappointed because we are winning games, are in a decent position and know we can still improve."

DK are now in North Mids Cup action this Friday night with a trip to take on Bournville on their artificial pitch under the floodlights.

"It'll be an interesting challenge on their pitch but it'll be good to test ourselves against a team from the league above," added Shillingford.

"We may change it up a little and blood a few youngsters but we won't know for sure until after training this week once we assess those carrying a few knocks."

DK's next clash at Heathbrook will be on Saturday, October 20 against Midlands One West's basement boys Longton.
