NEW Gornal Athletic boss Ash Causer says he's looking forward to getting started at Garden Walk.

The former Cradley Town manager takes over after Lee Wood was sacked this week following last weekend's defeat against Droitwich.

Causer now takes charge of the Peacocks for this Saturday's home clash against Sutton United.

He said: "I wanted to get straight back into it after Cradley because I did enjoy my time while I was there.

"I think this is a good opportunity and I've worked with the chairman, Lee Farrington, before and hopefully we can start to build something.

"They have had a few bad result lately but hopefully I can get a few players in and turn things around. There is still plenty of the season still to go.

"It's all about assessing what I've got and getting off to a good start.

"I'd like to aim for a top four finish but I don't want to rule anything out at this stage."

Meanwhile, former boss Lee Wood says he was disappointed to leave Garden Walk.

He said: "I was surprised but not shocked.

"It is disappointing after just 12 games, especially after I was told there was no pressure on me at the start of the season.

"I'm not sure what they expected after I came in with a week to go until the season and had only five players available.

"We had more committee members than players and I was told the main thing was to get a team together and build from there.

"I have had to put so much time and work in that I don't mind that I'm not there anymore. I'll be spending some extra time with my family instead."
