TENNIS players at Wollaston Tennis Club (WLTC) were celebrating Valentine's Day a few days early to complete in their own annual Valentine's Day Tournament.

Twenty members signed up to this mixed event playing a series of matches over Saturday afternoon.

The main tournament was won by chairman Alan Hughes and Katy Waterhouse, with Shaun Ryder and last years winning lady Bec Yates very close behind in second place. This is traditionally the first tournament of the calendar year for WLTC and whilst it is a fun and inclusive event, it is also, of course a competitive one to get the season started.

Tournament organiser Dave Tranter "We have now run the Valentine's Day tournament for the last four years and it has proved to be really successful hence continuing the tradition. It's our first tournament of the year, and it was even better this time being able to use the clubs brand new courts right in front of the clubhouse."

The tournament took place using all of the four brand new all-weather courts which were installed thanks to financial grant funding provided by Enovert Community Trust and Ibstock Enovert Trust.

The club offers tennis throughout the winter, with the new upgraded courts complimenting the other four modern courts that they already have. They are all specially designed to provide good tennis in all weather conditions and provide a safe surface on which to run, even on cold days. The new floodlighting means that players can also enjoy using the courts on dark winter nights.
