With 11 Cricket World Cup tournaments in the books, it is difficult to pick the most memorable. Of course, cricket fans will be partial to some of their own favourite moments from the last 44 years; but here is a look at three unforgettable moments.

1. 1975 Cricket World Cup – West Indies rock Australia by 17 runs

The West Indies won the first ever Cricket World Cup against Australia. Held in England, the tournament featured eight teams with one notable side being East Africa, which was made up of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia. Today, there are of course a lot more countries participating in the World Cup. If you want to predict this year’s winner, you can visit Ivbet and also wager on the games during the tournament.

The final pitted the West Indies and Australia against one another. The two nations had met previously in the group stage with the West Indies coming out on top.

The final featured “Big” Clive Lloyd smashing his way to 102 off just 85 balls as the West Indies beat Australia for a second time at the tournament.

2. 1992 Cricket World Cup – Pakistan defeats England

England have never won the Cricket World Cup, but they have reached two finals. Their most recent final appearance came all the way back in 1992 against Pakistan. Pakistan rode their luck to reach the final as rain saved them from an impending defeat against England in the group stage.

Fortunes continued to go their way when Australia defeated the West Indies allowing Pakistan to make the final four.

New Zealand awaited Pakistan in the semi-final as the favourite to go through. However, Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq had other ideas as he led Pakistan past the co-hosts. Pakistan weren’t done there, as they faced off with England in the final.

Wasim Akram dominated England with the bat and ball and hit 33 in his side's innings of 249-6. Akram did even better bowling as he dismissed Allan Lamb and Chris Lewis in consecutive deliveries to help his side to the tournament trophy.

3. 1999 Cricket World Cup – Australia wins their second tournament

No national team has won more Cricket World Cups than Australia. Their 1999 triumph over Pakistan ushered in a three-peat of World Cup wins making the Aussies the team to beat on the international stage.

Halesowen News:

Australia nearly didn’t face off with Pakistan in the final. The Aussies took on South Africa in what has been labelled as the “greatest one-dayer ever played”. From genius plays to farcical moments that made fans cringe, the semi-final between Australia and South Africa had everything.

The match finished 213-213 with Australian advancing to the final thanks to a higher standing in the qualifying stage.
